Poker Room & Table Information
Our poker tables are running at Summerstrand in Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth). Both cash game regulars and tournament players can join us with ease. We offer separate areas for smokers and non-smokers, plus there is a Privé section reserved for high-stakes games for those who have a Sun MVG card.
Poker in our room mainly focuses on Texas Hold’em. Sometimes, if enough players show interest, tables switch to Raise ‘Em Poker or another variant. Hours go from 12:00 to 02:00 Sunday through Thursday, and we hold open until 04:00 every Friday and Saturday.
We’re in the heart of a large casino floor, which also has slot machines and other live tables. If you want to take a break, it’s easy to walk over to a different area of the casino, though our smart card used for slots doesn’t work directly at poker tables. Every time you move between slots and poker, you’ll need to cash out first.
Poker Tournaments at Boardwalk
The SunBet Poker Tour is a highlight here, open to participants over 18 years of age, with special benefits for MVG members. Structured multi-day tournaments have become a big draw. Our latest Main Event saw R680,000 in prizes, with high roller events running parallel prize pools. We keep satellites and freerolls on the schedule whenever possible - satellite winners get seated in main events, and MVG members may even land a seat in a freeroll with no buy-in.
Our last main event ran for six days, with several starting flights offered. High rollers arrived for their own spots with bigger prize structures and immediate buy-ins. Satellites usually run in the days before the Main Event, handing out entry tickets to those finishing at the top of the list. Freerolls are available for eligible MVG players with no buy-in required.
A portion of players walk away with a piece of the prize pot. If you make the final table, you’ll see a significant payout, and outright winners from the last few high rollers have seen over R500,000.

Sun MVG Program Benefits
The MVG loyalty program is core for those who plan to keep coming back. Register in person at our MVG desk (bring ID) or get things sorted early online at mysun.suninternational.com. Once that’s done, you’re given a physical card - this card tracks your play across Boardwalk and all other Sun International venues.
Use your MVG card when signing up for tournaments to unlock member-exclusive perks. Freerolls, certain seat reservations, and extra entries are part of the deal. Moving up the MVG tier ladder (which comes from your play volume, both slots and tables) gives additional benefits: priority seating, exclusive event access, and access to the Privé poker tables.
The program also gives you better hotel booking rates during tournament weeks. Both your tournament buy-ins and cash game rake contribute to loyalty credits. Just keep in mind that poker earns points a bit differently from slots.

Our poker room operates daily from 12:00 to 02:00 Sunday through Thursday, extending until 04:00 on weekends. How Tournament Registration Works
Tournament sign-ups start in advance at our tournament desk. Check with staff for current timing and requirements. Your MVG card and cash buy-in get you a seat assignment and your starting chips. Registration is handled on-site only.
You can register late during the first part of each tournament. All late starters still get a full stack. For re-entry events, losing players can buy back in for the same price, but only while registration is open.
Satellite tournament winners get their seat tickets at the desk before the start of the main event. Important to note: all entries happen on site only, with no online pre-registration available.
About Cash Games
Poker never stops on the cash tables, and games run side by side with events. Cash games in NLH and PLO are available with various limits.
Buy-in ranges are set based on the game’s limits, with the minimum usually at 20-40 big blinds and the max at 100-200 big blinds. Cash games buy-ins are handled at the poker desk for chips valid only at poker tables. Pot-Limit Omaha tables may appear if demand picks up.
To get a seat, speak to our floor supervisor. If no spots are open, you’ll be put on a waiting list. Demand climbs in the evenings and weekends, especially around tournament time. Cash players enjoy complimentary late dinner at 1:00 and breakfast at 6:00.
Cash game chips must be exchanged back to cash before leaving - they’re not transferrable elsewhere in the casino. Poker cash-outs are handled at the desk, just as with tournament wins.

Boardwalk Casino sits beachfront in Summerstrand, Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth), at the heart of Nelson Mandela Bay’s entertainment district. We are the only licensed casino in the Nelson Mandela Bay area, with everything connected - casino, hotels, entertainment, and dining.
Poker room operation hours don’t change often: Sunday to Thursday 12:00 to 02:00, Friday and Saturday until 04:00. On rare occasions during major public holidays, we announce any temporary schedule changes upfront.

Payments and Buy-Ins
All poker buy-ins and cash-outs are strictly in South African Rand. Tournament buy-ins are cash only, and credit cards are not accepted. An ATM is available if you need cash for buy-in.
Winnings are paid at our poker desk. If the payout is bigger than our usual limit, a floor supervisor will verify the transaction - this may take a moment but shouldn’t cause any issues.
